Hair-Transplantation

Are you having recurrent thoughts about hair transplantation?

I am sure you have seen those attractive advertisements about hair transplantation and it doesn’t seem to be a bad idea to regain the hair losses that you have incurred over time.

And why wouldn’t you consider hair transplant when you know that the reality is that no pills, cream or any other form of hair supplement is as effective as hair grafting is.

All of this looks good only till the time you watch those advertisements. Once you start diving deeper into the reality of hair grafting, you will definitely start giving it a second thought.

So, let’s look closely at hair grafting and then you can decide what suits you the best.

Should I transplant my hair?

One of the most important facts to know when you are considering grafting is that it’s a surgery. It involves a doctor who is operating a part of your body. We usually skip thinking on these lines whenever we get engrossed with those attractive advertisements.

So, here’s how it works:

It begins with the surgeon sterilizing and numbing a part of your head which acts as a donor site, from where the graft will come. Donor site is a place on the scalp where the hair loss hasn’t begun. The surgeon then cuts a few inches strip from the donor site. This strip would end up the graft.

Once the graft is in place, he will stitch the wound on the back of your head which would be hidden by hair.

The graft is then divided into 500-2000 smaller chunks with anywhere from one hair to a lot of hair on each.

The doctor sterilizes and numbs the portion of the scalp where the grafts would be attached. He uses a needle to make small slits everywhere the graft is attached. The process takes about 4-8 hours.
When the grafts are attached, the surgical site is colored with gauze.

Precautions to be taken after Hair Transplantation

As you know that after any kind of surgery you really need to take a lot of precautions. So hair grafting is no exception. The doctor is most likely to prescribe painkillers, antibiotics and anti-inflammatories to you. You would be advised to complete the entire course of these medicines which would stretch for a long duration. All your work would come to a halt for 2 days to a week’s time. Finally, you will have to get your stitches removed from the donor site in about 10 days.

Side Effects of Transplantation

Once you get your hair grafting done, be mentally prepared to face these side effects which would take a couple of weeks to clear up completely:

  • swelling
  • bleeding
  • bruises around the eyes
  • a crust on or around the surgical sites where hair was grafted
  • infection
  • numbness or lack of sensation at the donor and/or graft sites
  • itching
  • inflammation or infection of the hair follicles
  • Sudden loss of transplanted hair
  • Unnatural looking tufts of hair

In order to get a real thick hair you will have to go for another round of surgeries with 2-3 months of healing time between each session.

Cost of Hair Transplantation surgeries

If you are going for a hair transplantation surgery, be ready to burn a hole in your pocket. The cost incurred would be anywhere from $4000 to $15,000. That’s fifteen thousand dollars. And it is not covered by most of the health insurance schemes.

Alternatives to hair transplantation;

No matter whatever you do, no other treatment is as effective as hair grafting is. But, it is also a very expensive and time consuming surgery and has several side effects.

  1. I think that everything said was actually very logical. However, consider this, what if you added a little information? I ain’t suggesting your information is not good, but what if you added a headline that grabbed folk’s attention? I mean %BLOG_TITLE% is a little vanilla. You should look at Yahoo’s home page and see how they create article headlines to grab viewers to click. You might add a video or a related pic or two to grab readers interested about what you’ve got to say. Just my opinion, it would make your blog a little bit more interesting.
