Badrinath Ki Dulhania

Badri

In this Hindi-language film, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan play the roles of two very different characters – the rich moneylender, Badri, and the young girl, Vaidehi. While Badri’s ambitions are limited, Vaidehi’s are endless. The film reveals the complicated relationship between the two leads as they go from rivalry to romance.

Vaidehi in Badrinath Ki Dulhania

The character of Vaidehi is well-drawn by director Khaitan. While the movie promotes gender equality and respect, it also takes a conservative stance, with its patriarchal name and traditional outlook. Vaidehi, on the other hand, is assertive and independent, yet too superficial for the audience’s taste. Nevertheless, we are able to sympathize with her plight as she begins to develop a respect for men.

Varun Dhawan

The film opens with a sweet love story, and gradually transforms into a progressive one, and then returns to its original premise. Varun Dhawan plays Badrinath Bansal, a gym-type boy next door, who has fallen in love with Alia (Namita Deol). Badrinath is the son of a rich and misogynistic father, and his fiancee, Vaidehi (Alia), wants to be independent, while his father wants her to remain a housewife after marriage. Despite his insecurities, however, Badrinath is a good man, and he takes the role with grace and conviction.

Storyline

The storyline of Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya revolves around the life of a middle-class family in small-town India. Badrinath, an MCP, believes that he has found his ideal bride in Vaidehi Trivedi, a young woman from Kota, Rajasthan. She craves independence and individual identity. When Vaidehi’s brother falls for her, he decides to take matters into his own hands.

Songs

The Badrinath Ki Dulhania soundtrack is an incredibly eclectic blend of dance music and quaint ballads. It has everything from a ’90s disco anthem to an uplifting love song sung by Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. As with most OSTs, you’ll find both genres represented in this album.
