Runway 34 is an engrossing thriller about a pilot whose plane takes an enigmatic trajectory after leaving its international destination. Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgn play two equally different characters in this movie. While the former’s character is a bit egotistical, the latter avoids unnecessary tracks. The film is well-crafted, with a ‘humour’ factor that is surprisingly effective.

Runway 34 Movie Review

Amitabh Bachchan’s character is egotistical

The film’s premise is simple enough: A pilot meets a fashion designer at an airport. When the two men argue, they both lose. However, it turns out that Amitabh Bachchan’s character in Runway 34 is egotistical and not funny at all. This makes the movie’s climax all the more dramatic.

Narayan Vedant uses pure Hindi in his sentences to add a humour factor

While Amitabh Bachchan plays the role of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau officer, Narayan Vedant, with admirable verve, has no qualms about using every trick in his book to get rid of Vikrant. He believes that Vikrant is cocky and has behaved negligently. Throughout the movie, Narayan grills Rakul Preet Singh. While Ajay Devgn tries to inject humour into the otherwise bland movie fare, this actor does not succeed.

Ajay Devgn steers clear of unnecessary tracks in Runway 34

“Runway 34” is an interesting film about flight and the color blue, but Ajay Devgn’s latest venture falls flat on a few counts. The story is unfocused, the characters are underdeveloped, and the film lacks cultural realism. Though the film mentions a few Indian cities, including the Kochi and Trivandrum airports, the film is set elsewhere, and this makes it difficult to identify the real story.

Captain Vikram Khanna is not a regular hero

Ajay Devgn and Ranbir Kapoor star in a movie based on true events. Ajay Devgn plays Vikram Khanna, the pilot, who uses math rather than common sense to land the plane safely. He disregards the opinions of others, and even carries a cigarette in his mouth in no-smoking zones. The film, however, is just as inconsistent as Vikram Khanna.

Captain Vikram Khanna relies on math over common sense

In Runway 34, a skilled airline pilot and his young copilot, Tanya Albuquerque, are forced to make an emergency landing after their aircraft is denied clearance for runway number 14. It’s a disastrous situation that puts the lives of all 150 people on board at risk, and casts a shadow of doubt over Khanna’s career and reputation. The movie also stars Amitabh Bachchan as a stern official in the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, Narayan Vedant, who is an experienced investigator.
